Today we got Dragons fourth and final report card for 5th grade. After the ultimate grounding of all time (we were actually running out of ideas, short of sweatshops in Mexico), parents looking over every bit of his homework & grades, parent correspondence with teachers and a family trip to the beach cut short because of bad grades — he successfully brought up every single grade in all of his classes, except one (it was only one point lower).
After a year of classes chock-full of C’s,D’s and a couple F’s (and sporadic A’s and B’s) — Dragon managed to pull off an A, B, C report card for the fourth 9-week period. Even managed to get his overall year average up in a couple of classes– with only 1 D in the final tally.
Wow. We are so proud of him. (And WE’ve never looked so forward to a summer vacation– whew!)

Yep. We’re actually going to have to reward instead of punish this time…

Yay! Just glad he didn’t get straight A’s or else we’d be broke this week (hee)…

No, thats when you just create one of those “I told you one thing and I’m doing another thing” incidents that gives him something tangible in his teenage years to hate you for.
We’re going to need to come up with a few of those…

Great job, Dragon and folks! Fifth grade is a huge, difficult change and I am positive 6th grade will be an easier year. Tell him I am proud of his accomplishment!

We had the same problem this year with the same result, and damn I feel relieved. Summer will be *so* much better than I feared.

Responsible parenting is what society lacks today. Glad to see there sre still parents out there that value discipline.
